Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society News Oct/Nov 2012

Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society News
GMDS present the Irish premiere amateur performance of Miracle on 34th St. the Musical in December in the Mill Theatre. This is a great zippy New York Musical Show for Theatre lovers and families. It is also a great Christmas show. The story is told of Doris and Susan Walker, a mother and daughter that are much too practical to believe in Santa Claus. Filled with humor, spectacle of New York at Christmas, Macy’s famous Thanksgiving Parade and beloved songs this joyous, heart-warming musical is pure family entertainment.
It is just 5 weeks to show now and time is flying. Rehearsals are proceeding apace each Tue and Thur night in St. Tiernans. There is nothing quite like the buzz from live theatre. Songs, dance numbers, choreography and acting are coming together now. We still have a lot of work to do until everything is learned. And then we need to polish! There will be an even busier time coming up to show. We will be working on costumes, props and the set and including them in rehearsdals. We have Tech rehearsal and Dress rehearsals on the Mon and Tue before the show opens.
Congratulations to all who have been assigned roles! We have a great cast including people from ages of 8 years old to people in their seventies. Some of the main roles are as follows:
Leona McEvoy - DORIS WALKER, a very sharp young career-woman and free thinker
Eimear Fitzpatrick - SUSAN, her six-year-old daughter
Shane Morgan - FRED GAILY, a handsome Marine captain, mustering out into civilian life
Liam Corrigan - KRIS KRINGLE, the real McCoy
Christopher Bass - MARVIN SHELLHAMMER, an aggressive but somewhat bungling junior executive
George Ward - JUDGE MARTIN GROUP

There is a huge amount of work being put in by our production team who are: Director - Tom Ronayne, Choreographer - Helen McCann, Musical Director - Gerry Connolly, Chairperson - Peter O'Brien.

We are happy to say tickets are selling quickly and we would advise you to book your tickets well in advance. Please spread the word to your friends, family and neighbours who would like to come and see the show. Tickets are available through the Mill Theatre box office on 01-2969340 or online www.milltheatre.ie.

The Musical by Meredith Willson is based on the 20th Century Fox Picture with story by Valentine Davies and screenplay by George Seaton. The film starred Maureen O'Hara and John Payne. It is perhaps one of O'Hara's best remembered films.
