juicy flapjacks!

Well, not juicy. nice and moist.
Cranks and Flahavans recipies both similar. I added "pink" tea. And raisins.

350g oats
200g butter
100g brown sugar
2tbsp golden syrup
1-2ish mugs tea (herbal or "real")
some raisins

1. mix all together in bowl. hot tea will melt the butter. leave to soak for at least 30 mins.
2. heat oven to 150C/300F/gas2
3. spread mix out on baking tray which has been covered with greaseproof paper. fold up edges and squeeze to make straight sides.
4. bake for 30+ mins. turn up heat at end and brush top with milk to get a golden brown top.
5. cut squares while still warm. leave to cool and firm up in tin.

Kate and I cooked spanish omlette for tea. potatoes cut in short and chunky chips. onion rings.
blanch/par boil those. then fry. add garlic and chilli. keep stirring. add some spinach chopped up small. keep stirring. open all windows to vent choking chilli fumes. add some chopped tomatoes. finally add eggs on top. don't stir. add slices of cheese and grill.

Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society 40^th Anniversary Gala

November 22-26, Mill Theatre, Dundrum

Calling All Members and Friends New and Old.

Singers and Dancers, Actors and Actresses. Kids and Adults.

GMDS is calling up all members and friends to celebrate 40 years of shows from Glencullen and down the mountains to Dundrum. A GALA Show is being prepared for November and we want YOU to be part of it!

A variety of musical, dancing and dramatic numbers will be put on. The show is in the planning stages now. Much work is needed but great fun is to be had doing it of course! You can get involved early if you wish to get in your own ideas for numbers and would like to be involved in preparations. The show plan will be made firm at the end of August and beginning of September and rehersals will run from Sep-Nov.

We are hoping that members from throughout the society's history can come and take part and recall the fun and glory of past performances. Send us any messages with your favourite past performances and memories of GMDS. Watch out for news of the show in September and November.

We have had a very busy last year. The musical The Pajama Game played the Mill theatre from May 3^rd to 7^th. The cast and crew put on a very funny, colourful and vibrant show. The costumes in the picnic scene were loud but the whole performance was even louder and jumped off the stage!Before the troubles in the Pajama factory there were troubles on stage and back stage with the farce Noises Off which was put on in the ice and snow in December 2010.

Polish up your stage shoes, tune up your voice, dust off your song books and limber up your dancing moves. Get ready for a funny and memorable night out.

You trust Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fail more that the Greens? The other parties have been running local and national government of this country for the long term. If we had Green policy where government appointments were made to qualified people and not to friends we would have been better off in banking regulation and other areas.

From listening closely to politicians the Greens and especially Eamon Ryan are the most honest. They always explained what they were doing. They had to go into government to show they were not irrelevant as they were always dismissed as before. They didn't go out of government earlier where they might have gotten some credit for it but when it might have made the situation worse.

Unfortunately being honest doesn't look or sound as good on media as is finding the latest most popular ideas and expounding on them dramatically.

Other parties and independants pick up green issues because they're fashionable and think they'll get votes for it (and they do!). It's okay seeing good policy picked up but cringe factor is a bit too high at times when it is being implemented by eejits who have latched onto green fashion but not principles. :-7

How To Make a Pinata - Cerial boxes and crepe paper.

Pinata's are great for kids parties.
We had one for Kate's and two(!) for Maeve's this year.
They give very good entertainment for maybe 20 minutes or more.

Mr Grumpy and Miss Naughty Pinatas

They're easy enough to make (for adults), a little bit time consuming.
1. Get a big cerial box and tape the bottom up.
 (or tape a few together to get interesting shapes)
2. Attach string very firmly, this has proven to be the weak point in ours.
3. Get coloured crepe paper, cut the crepe paper in about 3 inch strips and snip cuts all along one side about 2 inch deep. Cut multiple sheets at once.
4. Start at bottom and glue a strip all way round box with the cut tabs down and not glued.
5. Work way up the box overlapping the crepe paper. You can go for one colour or mix colours.
6. Stick on noses, mouths, arms, feet (paper or foam or ...) (the nose is attached with string on inside so that when whacked off it swings)
7. Load your Pinata up with sweets, close the top (keeping string accessible) and 
8. Pick a place in house or garden and pick out weapons and blindfolds.

 * A jumper or too big hat works well as blindfold as it goes on or off fast - no fiddling with knots.

 * WATCH out for backswing!! 2 adults to mind Queue and Pinata bashing are good.

 * At the end help the little/timid kids to get something!

 * Starting with a weak bat and stopping to hunt for better bats (planted beforehand) adds to the fun.
