What does a windows 10 printer test page look like ?

Another very exciting adventure. :-o

Figuring out what's wrong with Dad's printer with help from Dad & Graham & the internet . . .

End of last year several times the computer stopped printing.

Removing the printer and adding it again solved it.

Tricky to debug problems and do that remotely.

Did it with Dad pointing his phone on video call at computer screen partly!

This time something was printing but things were printing out weirdly. Report that headers and parts of documents were printed. Should have figured out earlier ink problem.

TLDR; A sequence of printing test page, printing ink test pattern, clean print heads, deep clean print heads solved it.

Printing A Windows Test Page Using Windows 10

  1. In the Search box on the taskbar, type Devices and Printers.
  2. Touch or click Devices and Printers (Control panel).
  3. Touch and hold or right-click your printer.
  4. Touch or click Printer Properties.
SLN153411_en_US__1icon Be sure to select Printer Properties and not Properties, or you will not see a Print Test Page button.
  5. Under the General tab, Touch or click Print Test Page.
We first printed a test page. Which looked ... a bit minimal but fine? Lovely blue "Windows test page" and Blue printer icon. But what should it look like?

  <--- This is what printed

This is what it SHOULD look like --------->

We actually couldn't find a picture on the internet of this example . . . but found this on youtube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvMwo6hf3us

Anyway, . . black text missing, therefore we have a problem with black ink.

This printer canon G3000 comes with ink cartridges that stay in place. You refill them using bottle of ink. This had been recently done for the black ink.

Canon G3000 manual:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/375177.pdf

1. Print ink test pattern (hold down power button until led flashes once).

2. Clean ink jets (hold down power button until led flashes twice).

3. repeat step 1.

4. repeat step 2.

5. repeat step 1.

6. Deep clean ink jet heads (hold down power button until led flashes three times).

7. repeat step 1.

Finally the ink test pattern shows correct pattern for all colours and for black ink.

Us too. Same same. Black ink nozzle gummed up.
